The Importance Of Marinade and Rub
Using a marinade and rub is essential to your pig roast. Your choice of ingredients and spices will certainly affect the final taste of your roasted hog. And while there are a lot of marinade and rub recipes available online, we suggest using the traditional Cuban mojo criollo and adobo seasoning! These are tried and tested flavor inducers that make every pig roast an unforgettable Cuban treat.
For the marinade, mash some garlic cloves first. Afterward, get a bowl and combine the garlic with some lemon juice, pineapple juice, orange juice, water, cumin, salt, bay leaves and oregano. Inject the mixture on your pig’s hams, shoulders and then apply the rest of the marinade onto the skin.
For the adobo seasoning, simply mix together some garlic powder, chili powder, dried oregano, cumin, black pepper, onion powder, salt and paprika.
Choosing Your Side Dishes
Side dishes are not difficult to choose. Just as long as you have a delicious roast with tender meat and crispy skin, you’re good to go. However, if you’re not sure what to serve, try these suggestions:
1. Macaroni and Cheese
2. Green Salad
3. Baked Beans
5. Au Gratin Potatoes
6. Stuffed Onions
7. Stuffed Peppers
8. Potato Salad
9. Corn Salad
10. Mexican Rice
Prepping The Drinks
In terms of drinks, you don’t really have to serve something extravagant. For most men (and women) ice-cold beer would suffice. However, if you are looking to serve cocktails and beverages specially mixed for the ladies, the question you might want to ask yourself first is, should you serve drinks with alcohol or without? Certainly, there are many options available so here’s a short list that you might want to choose from!
2. Non-alcoholic / Regular Mojito
3. Iced Tea
4. Sour Cherry Yuzu Bellinis
5. Kumquat Mojitos
7. Cuban cider
8. Pina Colada
9. Non-alcoholic / Alcoholic Bloody Mary
10. Juice for the kids
