barbecue-side-dish-recipesAre you planning to host an All-American barbecue party? Yes? Then live up to your theme and make the menu — including the sides — classic American! Here’s a list of the most popular American side dishes for barbecues you might want to try.

1. Macaroni and Cheese

Cook this dish in a preheated oven. Cook your macaroni as per instructions on the package. Drain and set them aside. But while the pasta is cooking in the pot, get a saucepan and melt some butter. Add some onion and garlic. Let the two ingredients cook in butter until they become translucent. Add some floor and continuously stir. Add the milk and black pepper while still stirring. When the sauce begins to thicken, add the cheeses one at a time until the sauce turns smooth. Put the macaroni in a casserole dish and pour the sauce over them. Stir and bake for about 30 minutes. Let the dish cool for 10 minutes before serving.

2. Boston Baked Beans

Soak the beans overnight in cold water. Boil them the following day in the same water, for about 1 to 2 hours. Drain and reserve the water afterward. Put a layer of beans in a pot or casserole dish then follow up with a layer of bacon and onion. Then, combine some salt, dry mustard, pepper, molasses, ketchup, brown sugar and Worcestershire sauce in a saucepan. Boil the ingredients and then pour the mixture over the beans. Cover the dish with aluminum foil and then bake in a preheated oven. Bake for 3 to 4 hours until the beans are already tender.

3. Potato Salad

In a large saucepan, boil some potatoes for about 15 to 30 minutes. Once cooked, drain and let them cool. Peel the potatoes and cut them in a third of an inch slices. Get a bowl and toss the spuds with vinegar. Get another bowl and mash some egg yolks. Afterward, stir some mustard, onion, mayonnaise, chopped celery, whites and dill pickle. Add some salt and pepper. Finally, top with scallions or parsley.

4. Cheesy Corn Casserole

Heat bacon in a saucepan and let it brown. Add some garlic and butter and cook for about a minute. Add some floor and continuously stir for a minute. Whisk some milk and let the mixture boil while continuously stirring. Let the sauce thicken. Then, add some Velveeta, cream cheese, cheddar and paprika. Cook the sauce until it’s smooth. Remove the saucepan from the stove, stir the corn in and then season with salt and pepper. Transfer the mixture to a baking dish and cook in a preheated oven for about 40 minutes.

5. Classic Creamy Coleslaw

Shred the cabbage and the carrots. Salt the cabbage and then combine the two vegetables together in a large bowl. Toss the veggies. For the dressing, get another bowl and combine some mayonnaise,              sugar, salt and white wine vinegar. Add salt and pepper to taste. Pour the dressing over the slaw and toss the ingredients. Refrigerate before serving.
