A dry rub is a combination of spices and herbs that you can use to flavor your meat for grilling. We firmly believe in the big role that it plays not only in barbecues but also in pig roasting, too. In fact, you should not roast your meat, especially whole pigs, without it. If you’ll ask us about the best pig roast rub, we’ll say that it’s the famous adobo seasoning. However, if you’re looking for other options, here’s a list you might find interesting.
The BBQ Pit Boy’s favorite rub involves the mixture of a quarter cup of paprika, an eighth cup of freshly ground black pepper, 2 tablespoons of garlic powder, 2 tablespoons of onion powder, a tablespoon of cayenne pepper, a quarter cup of coarse salt and a quarter cup of sugar (can be brown or white).
2. The Hog Rub
Combine half a cup of ground black pepper, half a cup of sugar, half a cup of chili powder, a quarter cup of coarse salt, 2 teaspoons cayenne pepper and four teaspoons of dry mustard. This rub recipe is best for pork and its shelf life is pretty long. It may last for several months and still taste great on your pig roast.
We also found this rub recipe online and we thought you should check try this on your pig, too. We realized this involves several spices and may even make your roast spicy. Get a mixing bowl and combine 6 tablespoons of paprika, 6 tablespoons garlic salt, 4 tablespoons white sugar, 3 tablespoons onion salt, 2 tablespoons chili powder, 2 tablespoons brown sugar, 2 tablespoons red pepper, 6 tablespoons salt, 4 tablespoons black pepper and 1 tablespoon coriander.
This mixture yields half a gallon of rub so use an appropriately sized mixing bowl. Combine half a cup of dried lemon peel, half a cup of white pepper, a cup of ground cayenne pepper, a cup of dry mustard, a quarter cup of celery seed, 3 cups of black pepper, 3 cups of Spanish paprika, half a cup of granulated garlic, a cup of salt and 2 cups of chili powder for a kick.
For this rub recipe, simply combine a teaspoon of garlic powder, a teaspoon of dried oregano, a teaspoon of ground coriander, a teaspoon of ground cumin, salt to taste and a teaspoon of dried thyme. This is only fit for 1 ¼ pounds of meat so remember to multiply the ingredients depending on the weight of your pig roast.
